Evolve Housing congratulates the Hon. Gladys Berejiklian on her appointment as Premier of NSW and welcomes her commitment to action on housing affordability.

In her first press conference, Premier Berejiklian identified the three top priorities for her government which included housing affordability saying that ‘increasing supply is the best way we can address housing affordability.’

Evolve Housing CEO Andrea Galloway says she looks forward to working with Premier Berejiklian towards definitive action on the NSW housing crisis.

“Evolve Housing supports the increase of the supply of housing, particularly in the social and affordable housing space. With around 44% of NSW households said to be living in financial and housing stress, affordable housing needs to be key priority for the Berejiklian government.’

Ms Galloway says, ‘While this is a great start, supply is just one area of the housing crisis that needs to be addressed. Evolve is advocating for reduced waiting times on the social housing waiting list and increased preventative support for people experiencing disadvantage to stop them from falling into the cycle of homelessness. We also hope to see Premier Berejiklian commit NSW to a national strategy on homelessness and housing affordability, to support over 100,000 Australians who go without a safe place to sleep each night.”

Evolve Housing will continue to work closely with the NSW government and the Department of Family and Community Services towards our common goal of supporting people experiencing disadvantage and are in housing need.
