High School Help Factsheet

The High School Help program helps with the cost of educating students in that critical period of their education. This program recognises the importance of education, especially in those critical years of their education from year 7 to year 11.

This program provides financial assistance and tutoring to Evolve Housing residents across 3 years, who are full-time students and meet the eligibility criteria. This program helps residents establish a strong foundation
to continue and succeed in further education.

This program is available to Evolve Housing residents/ declared occupants. All successful applicants will be invited to attend a presentation ceremony.

Eligibility Criteria

  • New applicants with a child starting Year 7, 8, 9 10 or 11 (High School) only can apply for this grant each year. Only one child per household is
    eligible.
  • Applicant must be a Permanent Resident or Australian citizen.
  • Declared occupant living in an Evolve Housing
    property.
  • Person(s) receiving the grant must be attending a state funded Public School. (Private and Catholic School students are not eligible to apply.)
  • Other criteria along with income may be considered including:
    • Long term illness
    • Medical costs
    • Home overcrowding making study difficult
    • Disability of yourself or a member of the household
    • Applicant household must not have a current debt with Evolve Housing.

Requirements

  • Completed application form.
  • Must meet eligibility criteria.
  • Applicants must provide copies of most recent reports from their current school.
  • Letter from the school Principal supporting the application.
  • Eligible students and parents must agree to participate in evaluation process.
  • Students must be engaged in and participating in school program.
  • Approved students need to agree to participate in tutoring.
  • Parental intention to participate in parent workshops, provided by S4S Coaching.

School Requirements

Successful applicants must meet ongoing requirements in order to receive ongoing support over the 3 years.

  • Approved applicant must be fully participating in school program. Poor attendance and behaviour may result in withdrawal of further support.
  • End of year report from school including a copy of school report and letter from year advisor. Poor attendance and behaviour may result in withdrawal of further support.
  • Students will be assessed in July and January in each year of the grant to assess progress and approval of further funding.

All applicants will be notified in writing if they have been successful, and applicants may be requested for an interview.

Tutoring

Successful applicants will be provided with ongoing tutoring provided by S4S Coaching over the three years and must agree to participate in tutoring in order to qualify for the grant. Tutoring will be 2 hours per week during school terms.

Successful applicants are required to meet ongoing requirements in order to receive ongoing support.

  • Students will be assessed in July and January in each year of the grant.

Payments

Successful applicants will have the full financial grant paid directly to the school to cover expenses needed for the individual student. The school along with the student and parent / guardians will work to decide what is needed for each student on an individual basis.

Total grant over 3 years is up to $10,000*, first year includes $900 in financial support given directly to the school and up to $2,500 in tutoring costs.
* total amount over 3 years is indexed for CPI increase.

Presentation Day

All successful applicants will be invited to attend the presentation ceremony.
