  • Comment on new policy that affects Evolve Housing residents.
  • Gives input about the future of the organisation.
  • Raise any issue of concern and make suggestions for improvement.
  • Organise social events.
  • Keeps Evolve Housing accountable through the Resident Report Card (a set of measures that residents think are important to make sure residents get a good service). This report card is published twice per year.
  • Manage the Communications Panel – made up of Resident Volunteers who give feedback on content and layout of letters and documents that are sent to residents.

Why does Evolve Housing need a Residents Council?

Evolve Housing wants to continue to improve the service it provides to its residents. Part of that improvement will be the ongoing feedback and evaluation from our residents so that Evolve Housing can plan new initiatives and programs to benefit all residents. In order for Evolve Housing to develop good initiatives and programs for the residents, it needs the input of the residents themselves. Being part of the Residents Council is an opportunity to do this.

What is the relationship between Evolve Housing and the Residents Council?

The Residents Council is an independent volunteer group. The Evolve Housing Community Engagement Team supports the Residents Council to meet its goals and plans. From time to time, other Evolve Housing staff  join meetings at the request of the Residents Council.

Do members of the Residents Council receive more advantages for their home?

Members of the Residents Council do not receive an advantage that other residents cannot get. Members of the Residents Council are subject to the same policies and will have to use the same procedures as other residents. From time to time the Residents Council members discuss issues that relate to their own tenancy based on their experience as a resident. This is completely acceptable and Evolve Housing knows that this can be a useful and effective way of getting changes that benefit all residents. Evolve Housing also believes that it is extremely important that all our residents (whether they are members of the Resident Council or not) are treated equally.

Who is in charge of the Residents Council?

The Residents Council has a Chairperson, a Vice-Chairperson and a Secretary. The Residents Council members elect these positions or “office bearers” themselves.

Do Residents Council members receive any training or assistance?

Yes, Evolve Housing with the Residents Council, decide on training they need and arrange for Registered Training providers to provide that training.

How often are meetings held?

The Residents Council meet every month at the Evolve Housing Office in Parramatta. The day and time of the meetings is set by the Residents Council members.

How are the Residents Council elected?

Residents Council members are elected annually by the residents at Evolve Housing’s Annual General Meeting, however members can be elected between Annual General Meetings by current members of the Residents Council. Anyone interested can nominate for election and further information is available by contacting the office.
