Evolve Housing Group released its inaugural Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Strategy 2025–2028, marking an important step in strengthening how the organisation understands, manages and reports on its environmental and social responsibility.
The Strategy provides a clear and practical framework for embedding environmental stewardship, social outcomes and strong governance into everyday decision making. It reflects both the changing environment in which Evolve Housing operates and a deliberate focus on ensuring that growth is responsible, resilient and centred on the needs of residents and communities.
The Strategy sets a clear path towards measurable impact, with its first Sustainability Impact Report to be released in October 2026.
Group CEO Lyall Gorman said the Strategy sets a strong framework for the organisation’s next phase of growth.
“The ESG Strategy is a foundation stone for Evolve Housing. It strengthens how we plan, govern and measure our impact as we grow, ensuring our homes and communities are appropriate, functional, inclusive and sustainable over the long term for the residents who call them home.”
Built around four key themes—Environment, Tenant & Community, Governance and People – the Strategy outlines a clear roadmap supported by nine priority focus areas. Together, these will guide how Evolve Housing delivers, measures and continuously improves its ESG performance over time.
The Strategy also recognises the critical role of innovative funding and financing models in delivering sustainable social outcomes. By leveraging new and emerging funding opportunities, Evolve Housing is strengthening its ability to respond to rising cost of living pressures for residents, improve thermal comfort so people can live well in their homes, and increase the long-term sustainability and resilience of its housing portfolio. This approach supports better resident outcomes while creating enduring value for partners, investors and the communities Evolve Housing serves.
A key focus of the Strategy is establishing strong organisational foundations, including governance structures, data systems and performance measures. This approach ensures that as Evolve Housing’s ESG program matures, reporting will be credible, consistent and meaningful for all stakeholders.
Melissa Scardino, Group General Manager of Growth, Governance, Legal & CoSec, said the Strategy reflects a whole of organisation commitment to embedding ESG into how Evolve Housing operates.
“This is about integrating ESG into the way we think, plan and make decisions across the organisation. By strengthening our governance and continuing to build robust systems and processes, we are creating a framework that supports transparency, accountability and long-term value for our residents, community, partners and future investors.”
Dan Conway, Senior Manager – Growth, Strategy and Sustainability who led the development of the Strategy, said the focus on getting the fundamentals and reporting alignment right was deliberate.
“We have taken a considered and staged approach, focusing first on building capability, establishing a clear emissions baseline and aligning our strategy with recognised sector and global standards. This ensures that as we progress, we are able to demonstrate real, measurable impact that is meaningful to our business, communities and partners.” – Dan Conway
Importantly, the Strategy aligns with the Australian Community Housing ESG Reporting Standard and will culminate in Evolve Housing’s first ESG Impact Report in FY2025–26. This will provide transparent reporting to our residents, partners, investors and stakeholders, and will continue to lay the foundations for the next phase of Evolve Housing’s ESG journey.
At its core, the Strategy reinforces Evolve Housing’s purpose: enabling more people in need to live in quality homes in thriving and inclusive communities, while ensuring that growth is sustainable and responsible over the long term.
