Evolve Housing partners with DCJ to deliver housing for victim-survivors of domestic violence

Mar 17, 2022

Evolve Housing is proud to have partnered with the NSW Department of Communities and Justice to offer 12 affordable apartments for women and children escaping domestic and family violence.

The apartments are located in Guildford and were purchased in December 2021 using $5 million of funding from the NSW Government’s Community Housing Innovation Fund.

3 tenants have already been allocated to the properties, and Evolve Housing expects the apartments will be fully tenanted by the end of June.

There are 21 total apartments in the building, with the other 9 apartments dedicated to general social housing.

Although there is no obligation to do so, Evolve Housing is aiming to fill these units with other victim-survivors of domestic violence or women generally.

“Financial stress and lack of affordable housing options prevent many women from leaving abusive relationships, so funding for projects like this one is vitally important,” Evolve Housing CEO Lyall Gorman said.

“We are very proud to be offering this housing in partnership with the NSW Government to ensure that women and children escaping domestic violence have a safe, stable home while they start rebuilding their lives.”
